Bungay Cricket Club
Chairman's Report
Firstly thank you to all our volunteers, including Donny, David Simpkins, Marilyn and all the committee, for your hard work and efforts throughout the year. Also, this may sound strange but I would like to thank our Landlords, the directors of the BDSA for the improvement of our facilities and ground. Most of you will remember our previous situation and the sub standard service we received form WDC.
All in all we have one of the best changing, social area, training and playing facilities in the area. Of course we have to congratulate all of us as we have all been part of this transformation and progress, and long may this continue with help from every member of this club and the rest.
2006 saw the Sunday side, again hold their own in their division with a mix of experience and development of young players, which can only strengthen the club.
The A team narrowly missed out on promotion this year finishing a creditable third, in my opinion every effort must be made to go one step further next season in narrowing the gap between the A and 1st teams. Congratulations must go to the skipper Tim Porter for winning the batsman of the year award for division seven, well done Tim.
The first team had an up and down season with good performances coming after a slow start, ending mid table. Every year we talk of commitment, especially one event full dinner thanks to Trevor! It comes up before during and after every season and to be perfectly honest I do not know the answer, but I do know that the club needs to become more professional with nets if we are to compete with our closest nervous, no names mentioned! With this in mind I recommend that we have two senior nets per week during the summer giving more people a chance to come to at least one.
Also as discussed at committee level I am asking people for names for an overseas coach / player who can help the development of the club from junior to senior level.
David has investigated the club mark award that will bring possible investment into the club and he and I will be working toward that goal, during the closed season, with the committee’s permission.
After thirty years the club has seen many changes throughout it’s history, this is the start; I believe, to another period of change for the better, and with all your help, working together, there are many goals to be achieved.
Many thanks
Stuart Smith
