New Captain for 2007

A new era has begun at Bungay Cricket Club after Thomas York was appointed First XI captain at the clubs annual general meeting held on 6th November 2006.

Previous captain, David Fuller, stepped down after 3 years in charge during which he led the side to the Norfolk Cricket League Division 2 title and established them for the first time in the clubs history in Division 1.

Fuller, who will stay on as Vice-captain, thanked the club and particularly the committee, for all their support over the past 3 years and gave his full support to the new man in charge, Thomas York, who was the unanimous choice to take over the role.

In his annual chairman’s report, Stuart Smith thanked all the volunteers in the club, the committee, Marilyn Fuller, Donny Mickleborough & David Simpkin, and stressed that continued help was needed, particularly with the junior section of the club.

With the Maltings Meadow boasting some of the best facilities in the county for cricket and a new playing surface well underway for completion in 2008, the club must look to move forward with both sides looking for promotion this year and a third team eventually being formed to help bridge the gap between the youth sides and the senior teams.

Smith also stated that the club would be looking to improve the clubs profile in the area, starting by working towards the ECB clubmark and, after the successful work with Gavin Ewing, look to employ a first team coach for the 2007 season.

Tim Porter, who won the Division 7 batsman of the year, will continue to captain the A XI and will be assisted by Mark Humphries. Ted Bedingfield will continue his good work in being responsible for the Sunday side, giving the younger players more chance to show what they can do.

New captain York has already started to make plans for the summer with several friendly fixtures pencilled in for April next year.

If you’d like to join Bungay CC, we have three senior sides, two Saturday and one Sunday side and also a strong junior section with sides from kwick cricket (ages 4-8), under 10’s, 11’s, 13’s and 15’s. Any prospective players of any age or ability are advised to ring Chairman Stuart Smith on 07860 817927.
