Bungay Cricket Club’s junior programme 2007
Bungay kick off their junior programme after Easter with an exciting season ahead of them. As part of the Bungay & District Sports Association (BDSA), the club have reaped the benefits of the new clubhouse and changing facilities and are well on the way to completing their new playing surface.
A change of structure at the club sees David Fuller taking overall responsibility for the junior section and the under 10’s being managed this year by Ed Masters. The under 11’s will be managed by David Fuller and under 13’s and two under 15’s teams will be managed by Mike Hawkins and Craig Whipps.
Bungay will start the junior season by doing cricket taster sessions in 3 local primary and secondary schools after Easter and will be beginning there coaching sessions on Thursday 19th April for under 13’s and under 15’s starting at 6.30pm. Training sessions for kwick cricket, Under 10’s and 11’s will continue to be on Tuesday evenings starting 24th April, 6pm – 7.15pm.
The club have big plans for the junior section, the first stage of this is to provide close links to parents and the local community and will be running “meet the coaches” nights on the first training session of each age group. The club will also be running throughout the summer and providing holiday cricket weeks during the school summer holidays. The club have also agreed a deal with a sports retailer and will be providing each junior member with a free Bungay CC cricket shirt.
Junior co-ordinator, David Fuller, said;
“Bungay Cricket Club sees the junior section is the backbone of the club and is constantly looking at ways to develop its huge potential. We have invested heavily in developing our coaches and volunteers and feel by creating better communication links to parents and the local community we can encourage the continued growth which we have seen in the last few years.”
Bungay already have a number of qualified coaches and have more gaining experience and qualification in this pre-season. Boasting some of the best practice and playing facilities in the area, the club hope to improve even more during the next few years to become a real alternative for cricket in Bungay and the surrounding area.
For more information on the “meet the coaches” evening for your child’s age group, or for any general information regarding the junior section, please contact David Fuller on 01986 895974.
Bungay’s senior indoor nets have already started and are running every Thursday night between 7pm and 8pm at the new Hobart High School sports centre in Loddon.
