Bungay Tennis Club
Club history
Bungay has a long tradition of tennis, stretching back at least to the days in the 1920s when regular annual open tournaments on the former Earsham recreation ground, just over the bridge at the bottom of Earsham Street, attracted many players from a wide area. There has been a tennis club in Bungay for most of the time since then, and probably for some years before, though records are vague.
What we do know is that since the Second World War the club played regularly on courts at the Maltings Meadow at Ditchingham till the later 1960s, when they moved to new courts built in the town centre.
But sometime during the early eighties the club moved back to the Maltings Meadow, and played there until the late 1990s, at which time the move was made to the Bungay High school’s courts.
